The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Cambridge is currently accepting applications for the 2026/2027 academic year. This prestigious program is designed to empower talented young African leaders by enabling them to pursue a master’s degree and cultivate their potential to drive change.
Program Benefits
The scholarship is comprehensive, ensuring Scholars have everything they need to thrive at Cambridge. The funding package covers:
- Tuition Costs
- Monthly Maintenance Allowance
- All other essential expenses required to complete the master’s program.
Program Themes and Eligible Courses
The program is strategically focused on addressing global challenges through its core themes:

Recognizing the wide range of expertise required, prospective Scholars may apply for any full-time, one-year postgraduate course offered by the University of Cambridge, with the following exceptions:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Master of Corporate Law (MCL)
- Master of Finance (MFIN)
- Master of Accountancy (MACC)
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of an African country.
- Be resident in an African country, or be able to demonstrate temporary absence for study or work. (Exceptions apply for applicants who identify as internally displaced persons or have refugee status.)
- Be applying for an eligible master’s course that is up to one year in length.
- Meet the academic requirements for the chosen course. Most master’s programs require a first-class undergraduate degree, while some accept a ‘good’ second-class degree. Applicants must check the Course Directory and the International Qualifications page for country-specific entry equivalents.
