About the Role

As a Supervisor of Health & Safety, you’ll be a vital partner to our operational teams. You will assess the quality of our health and safety management systems, processes, and policies. Your main goal is to collaboratively develop and implement plans to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards, ultimately ensuring a safe and sustainable working environment.


What We’re Looking For

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • A Degree or National Diploma in Health and Safety Management or a related field.
  • COMSOC 1 and 2 Certification.
  • A relevant Trade Certificate (Engineering).
  • At least 3 years of trackless mining experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health & Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996).
  • A valid Code 08 (EB) driver’s license.
  • You must be declared medically fit for the position and environment, which includes a risk-based medical examination and a Heat Tolerance Screening test.

Key Competencies

  • Sound interpersonal and collaboration skills with strong written and spoken English.
  • Experience in accident investigation processes like ICAM/R-CAT.
  • Familiarity with safety reporting standards and the ability to conduct intermediate safety audits.
  • A good understanding of the ISO 45001:2018 Safety Management Standard.
  • Computer literate and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your role will be multifaceted, focusing on both proactive safety measures and reactive responses. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Leading and participating in various safety meetings and forums.
  • Conducting scheduled and ad hoc safety inspections and audits.
  • Creating and presenting safety awareness and training materials to operational teams.
  • Facilitating and participating in risk assessment exercises, including bow-tie analysis.
  • Conducting and participating in accident or incident investigations (ICAM and RCAT).
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders on safety-related matters.
