Join our Financial Decision Support (FDS) team within Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) as a Specialist Accountant — where you’ll play a crucial role in financial planning, analysis, and management reporting. 🌟 Job Summary

The Specialist Accountant focuses on Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) and the reporting of management information for CIB’s executive leadership. This role is central to ensuring financial integrity, operational excellence, and strategic decision-making through insightful data analysis and automation of financial processes.

You’ll be part of a high-performing finance team that enables business agility, innovation, and transformation while upholding strong governance and financial stewardship.


🔑 Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Act as a subject matter expert in financial data integrity, reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate financial reports and management information aligned with business goals.
  • Support all financial cycles (budgeting, forecasting, month-end, and year-end) in collaboration with finance and business units.
  • Provide deep-dive analyses and trend reporting to inform business strategy and decision-making.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, standardized, and actionable insights.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure continuous improvement and real-time responsiveness in financial operations.
  • Drive automation, process efficiency, and digital transformation in finance practices.
  • Maintain a holistic ecosystem view — integrating performance data across geography, customer, channel, and product dimensions.
  • Uphold the highest standards of governance, financial rigor, and compliance.

Business Partnership & Strategic Insights

  • Provide the CFO and leadership team with timely financial intelligence to guide business performance.
  • Deliver contextualized performance reports — telling the story behind the numbers with clarity and impact.
  • Build innovative financial models, dashboards, and tracking solutions using tools like Power BI and Compass.
  • Foster collaboration across finance, treasury, and risk teams to deliver cohesive financial strategies.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Coach, mentor, and inspire finance colleagues to strengthen business acumen and analytical capability.
  • Promote collaboration across the Group Finance Division (GFD) to address challenges and drive innovation.
  • Contribute to the evolution of financial processes, systems, and stakeholder reporting across Absa’s CIB function.

🎓 Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Financial Sciences (Required).
  • Preferred: CA (SA), CIMA, or MBA qualification.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years in financial planning and/or management reporting.
    • 2+ years in the banking or financial services sector.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint (essential).
    • Experience with Power BI and Compass (advantageous).
    • Strong analytical, commercial, and presentation skills.
    • Knowledge of financial governance, planning, and control processes.
