We are looking for highly motivated and skilled Java engineers to join our newly formed Fulfilment Engineering team at Takealot Fulfilment Solutions (TFS).

TFS is a new service offering spun off from Takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer. We are building a brand-new team from the ground up to create and manage all the systems required to orchestrate order fulfilment across distribution centers and logistics operations. Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It

As a key member of our Fulfilment Orchestration Team, your role will be centered around developing and optimizing systems that manage the entire order fulfilment process across South Africa. This isn’t just about writing code; it’s about solving real-world problems.

You will be:

• Developing and Optimizing Systems: Building and refining the core systems that manage our fulfilment process.
• Improving Processes: Working closely with business stakeholders to create more efficient deliveries and a better customer experience.
• Owning Solutions: Taking full, end-to-end ownership of your projects, from research and definition to deployment and maintenance.
• Working with Cutting-Edge Tech: Predominantly using open-source platforms and our modern tech stack, including Java, Spring Framework, and Google Cloud.

Our Tech Stack and What We’re Looking For

Our microservices architecture, built primarily on a REST and event-driven model, is designed for scale. You’ll work with a diverse tech stack that includes:

• Languages & Frameworks: Java, Spring Framework, Angular & React
• Databases: Postgres
• Cloud & Tools: Google Cloud, Google Pubsub, Git, Big Query, Graphite, Grafana, Flyway

We are looking for someone with a Degree in Computer Science or a similar qualification, and at least 3 years of experience in writing production code. Experience with SQL database systems is a must, and familiarity with Kubernetes (ideally in GCP) is a nice-to-have. We are also open to helping you grow your skills with other languages like Python, Scala, or C#.
