The Opportunity

Nando’s is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Shift Lead to drive operational efficiency and team performance at our Kyalami Corner Drive-Through (DT) location in Midrand. This crucial leadership role manages daily operations, ensures strict financial discipline, and delivers an outstanding customer experience. The Shift Lead is required to fulfill the full responsibilities of the Restaurant Manager during any periods of absence.

Key Areas of Responsibility

I. Operational Management

  • Compliance: Communicate and ensure comprehensive compliance with Nando’s operational standards and operating requirements.

  • Health & Safety: Perform daily compliance checks regarding Health & Safety, Repairs, Maintenance, Cleaning, and Hygiene. Ensure timely escalation of any problems to the Restaurant Manager.

  • Stock Control: Responsible for ensuring efficient and effective stock control management for the restaurant daily.

  • Audit Improvement: Assist in developing the corrective action plan and facilitating actions necessary to improve results from internal and external audits.

II. Financial Management

  • Administration: Ensure correct and effective financial administration daily, strictly following Nando’s policies and procedures.

  • Cost Control: Assist in controlling expenditure to achieve expected gross profit margins, including managing stock control, waste, and pilferage.

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor performance against set daily targets (Turnover, Ticket Average, Customer Count).

  • Business Improvement: Assist in taking necessary corrective actions to improve critical Business Performance Indicators (e.g., Sales YOY/Actual vs. Budget, Gross Profit, Menu mix, Labor Turnover, and Payroll vs. Turnover).

III. People Management

  • Workforce Planning: Assist in developing and monitoring weekly rostering to ensure sufficient staff capacity meets business requirements. Ensure strict adherence to opening and closing procedures.

  • Talent Development: Assist with the recruitment, induction, and training of all new staff according to Nando’s policies and procedures.

  • Performance & Discipline: Complete and check the attendance register. Assist the Restaurant Manager in ensuring adherence to the disciplinary code. Escalate poor performance where necessary and provide continuous performance feedback.

  • Training Sign-Off: Assist in ensuring that all staff are signed off on the relevant training material and operational procedures on an ongoing basis.

IV. Marketing and Customer Experience

  • Campaign Execution: Assist with the communication and execution of all national, regional, and local marketing campaigns and initiatives.

  • Local Marketing: Assist with the execution of the local marketing plan to promote sales and increase the customer base.

  • Customer Feedback: Respond to customer complaints in line with Nando’s policies and procedures.

  • Mystery Shopper: Assist in developing and facilitating corrective action plans to improve the results of the mystery shopper report.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12).

  • Experience: At least 2–3 years of restaurant management experience is required.

    • Preferred: Applicants with more than 3 years of restaurant management experience.

  • Skills:

    • Excellent knowledge of restaurant operations.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

    • Excellent communication skills.

    • Proven ability to manage and lead a group of people.
