About the Role

The Resource and Project Finance (RPF) team is a cornerstone of Absa’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) division. This team specializes in identifying, structuring, and executing large-scale project finance opportunities across the African continent.

We are seeking a Senior Investment Banker who will take the lead in structuring and executing project finance transactions. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional (5–7 years minimum in Investment Banking Project Finance) to play a pivotal role in driving Absa’s growth across energy, natural resources, power, and renewable sectors.

Key Responsibilities

💼 Transaction Leadership

• Take ownership of the origination, structuring, and execution of resource and project finance transactions.
• Manage all stages of deal execution — from due diligence to financial close — in line with Absa’s risk framework.
• Prepare and negotiate term sheets, loan documentation, and credit analysis reports for committee approval.

📊 Financial & Strategic Analysis

• Conduct detailed due diligence across financial, legal, commercial, and technical aspects of transactions.
• Lead the preparation and presentation of marketing materials and client pitches.
• Apply strong financial modeling and analytical skills to assess project viability and structure innovative financing solutions.

🤝 Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as the primary point of contact between clients, advisors, and internal stakeholders.
• Foster long-term relationships that support business development and cross-selling opportunities.
• Collaborate with teams across Absa to deliver integrated financial solutions.

📁 Portfolio & Team Management

• Oversee existing project finance portfolios, handling credit reviews, waivers, and amendments.
• Mentor and guide junior bankers, contributing to their professional development and ensuring delivery excellence.
• Contribute to the broader RPF strategy, enhancing Absa’s reputation as a leading project finance partner across Africa.

Qualifications & Experience

🎓 Education:

• University Degree or equivalent qualification (Professional certifications advantageous).

💼 Experience:

• 5–7+ years in Investment Banking Project Finance.
• Strong understanding of structures such as structured trade and commodity finance, reserve-based lending, and corporate facilities.
• Expertise in natural resources, energy, power, and renewable energy sectors.
• Advanced credit analysis, financial modeling, and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple high-value projects under pressure.
• Leadership experience and the ability to mentor team members effectively.
