About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Risk Officer to join a dynamic team based in Durban. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting a strong risk management culture within the organization.
This role requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and managing enterprise risks across multiple business units.
Key Responsibilities
1. Risk Identification and Analysis
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across business units such as Operations, IT, Marketing, and Customer Service.
- Identify internal and external risks and evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls.
- Analyze risk data and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Use qualitative and quantitative methods to assess risk likelihood and impact.
- Stay informed on emerging risks, industry trends, and regulatory developments.
2. Risk Ownership and Monitoring
- Monitor daily risk activities and promptly report emerging risks.
- Maintain and update the Risk Register and ensure data accuracy within the LexisNexis risk management system.
- Support the Risk Manager with regular reports and oversight of risk activities.
- Assist in maturing the organization’s enterprise risk management framework.
3. Risk Mitigation and Control Implementation
- Collaborate with the Risk Manager to develop and embed mitigation strategies in operations.
- Conduct Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) and track remediation plans.
- Investigate incidents and apply root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Support the development of risk awareness training materials.
4. Governance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with gambling and data protection regulations.
- Support business units in meeting all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Advise leadership on compliance risks and implications.
5. Reporting and Communication
- Prepare concise risk reports for senior management.
- Communicate complex risk information clearly to various stakeholders.
- Promote a positive risk management culture within the organization.

- Uphold confidentiality, integrity, and ethical conduct across all operations.
Growth and Innovation
- Support the development of new products and digital innovations (AI, automation, analytics).
- Lead or assist in company projects focused on risk management improvements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on best practices and regulatory changes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Completed Matric and Degree in Risk Management or equivalent.
- Experience: 3–5 years in Risk Management (e.g., Risk Officer, Risk Specialist, Risk Coordinator).
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of COSO ERM Framework and ISO 31000 (Advantageous)
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with ERM software (e.g., LexisNexis) (Advantageous)
- Understanding of gambling regulations and compliance standards (Advantageous)
- Background in online gaming or sports betting industries (Advantageous)
- Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and strong computer literacy.
