Our Talent Team is searching for a Risk Control Officer to join our Groceries Division, based in Randfontein, reporting directly to the SHER Manager.
The Risk Control Officer will oversee all Risk Management aspects, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of Risk Control Programmes in line with company standards, international best practices, and SH&E legislative requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Recognised tertiary qualification in Risk Management or related field.
- National Diploma in Safety Management or SAMTRAC (or equivalent).
- Experience in implementation, management, and internal auditing of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- 2–3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in implementing and managing ISO and OHSAS systems.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Strong understanding of all relevant SHE legislation.
- In-depth working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and integrated ISO/OHSAS systems.
- Familiarity with risk management principles and Alexander Forbes Risk Management Standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Legislative and Policy Compliance
- Ensure legal compliance with OHSACT and associated regulations, including environmental health and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate appointments and legal documentation.
- Align all internal policies with legislative requirements and best practices.
- Handle Department of Labour inspections and incident investigations as required.
2. Emergency Preparedness
- Implement fire prevention and emergency procedures.
- Develop and maintain a site contingency plan for crisis readiness.
3. Risk Management
- Conduct workplace and job-specific hazard analyses to identify potential SH&E risks.
- Develop and implement risk control measures and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Perform internal SH&E audits, participate in external audits, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Identify SHE training needs and coordinate with HR Development to schedule relevant sessions.
4. SHE Systems Management
- Oversee the development and implementation of an Integrated SHE Management System (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001) aligned with TQM (ISO 9001/22001).
- Manage and maintain the Alexander Forbes Risk Management Programme and risk registers.
5. Communication & Reporting
- Analyze data and develop leading indicators to communicate risk management performance.
- Prepare and present risk reports and recommendations to management.
- Liaise with external bodies such as the Department of Labour, fire department, and emergency services to ensure compliance and best practice.
- Ensure regular SHE meetings are conducted and properly documented.
6. Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct post-incident investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Continuously monitor activities to drive improvement in SH&E performance and compliance.
