Are you a meticulous financial professional with a passion for project management and a knack for working under pressure? The SANEDI (South African National Energy Development Institute) Energy Secretariat is seeking a dedicated Project Accountant to join our team on a three-year fixed-term contract. This is a unique opportunity to apply your financial expertise to support energy research, development, and technology innovation.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Project Accountant, you will be a key player in all project-related financial activities. You’ll work closely with managers, the finance department, and the SANEDI procurement department to ensure the financial success and compliance of our projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Financial Management: Assisting with all financial activities, including planning, coordination, monitoring, and reporting on the financial progress of projects.
• Reporting and Analysis: Compiling financial reports for managers as needed, ensuring all reports align with our financial policies and contract criteria.
• Reconciliation: Undertaking project financial reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Compliance: Ensuring all financial activities adhere to public sector requirements and legislative frameworks, such as the PFMA and GRAP.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is an analytical and organized professional with a strong accounting background and the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

• Education: A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. A BCom Accounting Hons with articles is a definite advantage.
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
• Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of Accounting Principles and demonstrable experience in MS Office (especially MS Excel).
• Attributes: We are looking for someone who is meticulous, has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and can work both individually and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in donor-funded projects.
• Prior experience working on Dynamics 365.
• Affiliation with SAIPA, SAICA, CIMA, or ACCA.
