About the Role
The Product Data Engineering Team is at the heart of Capitec’s data-driven ecosystem. This team designs, builds, and maintains enterprise data assets that fuel analytics, business insights, and decision-making across the organisation.
As a Product Data Engineer II, you’ll work with modern cloud technologies such as AWS, Redshift, and Airflow to deliver robust, high-quality data solutions. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams across the enterprise to ensure that our data infrastructure supports innovation while maintaining governance, standards, and data quality.
This role is ideal for a data professional who enjoys solving complex challenges, driving data excellence, and mentoring others within a technical, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data warehouse structures.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to support business intelligence and analytical needs.
- Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance with Capitec’s data strategy.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers to promote knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the development of enterprise data assets and frameworks that support analytics across the bank.
- Participate in system design, testing, and implementation to ensure robust performance and data accuracy.
Experience & Education
Minimum Requirements:
- 4–6 years’ experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, or Management Information Systems (MIS).
- A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Data Analysis, or Data Engineering.
- Proven experience with Big Data technologies supporting a conformed warehouse (e.g., Amazon Redshift) and relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with ETL/orchestration tools and cloud environments (preferably AWS).
- Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of dimensional modelling.
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of SDLC, ETL, and data pipeline lifecycle.
- Experience in data transformation, testing, and data quality assurance.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a technical environment.
- Experience in the banking or financial services industry is an advantage.
