The Art of the Deal: A Day in the Life of a Procurement Assistant

Have you ever wondered what it takes to keep a large healthcare network running smoothly behind the scenes? At the heart of this operation is the Procurement Assistant, a role that’s part detective, part negotiator, and part logistical wizard.

We’re looking for a new team member to join our corporate office in Stellenbosch, South Africa. As a Procurement Assistant, your main goal is to help our hospitals, corporate offices, and related businesses get what they need, from a single box of supplies to a complex piece of medical equipment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your days will be anything but boring. Here’s a sneak peek at your key responsibilities:

  • Placing Orders: You’ll be the master of our SAP S/4Hana system, turning approved purchase requests into successful orders.
  • Building Bridges: You’ll work closely with Hospital Management and suppliers, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
  • Staying Current: The world of medical technology is always changing. You’ll keep up with the latest products and technologies to make the best recommendations.
  • Ensuring Compliance: You’ll ensure every purchase aligns with financial regulations, including VAT and our specific financial codes.

Who We’re Looking For

This role requires a unique blend of skills and experience. If you’re a problem-solver with a knack for details, this might be the perfect fit for you.

Education and Experience

  • Essential: A Grade 12 education and at least 1-2 years of experience in a financial, purchasing, or medical field.
  • Desired: A tertiary qualification in a field like procurement or finance and experience in a healthcare environment.

Skills and Knowledge

  • System Savvy: You’ll need to be comfortable with procurement systems like SAP, Webi, and others.
  • Sharp Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and computer literacy are a must. You should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Process Oriented: An understanding of purchasing processes and associated legal and budget requirements is essential.
