Role Summary
The People Operations Manager will be the champion of our Team Member experience at Hampton by Hilton Sandton Grayston. This role is responsible for providing first-class HR support and expertise to the Hotel Leadership team, driving People Operations strategy, managing succession planning, and ensuring 100% compliance with all Hilton policies and local/national regulations.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
This role requires a proactive leader who will “Lead By Example” and execute a broad range of HR and operational duties:
I. Team Member Experience & Culture
- Be a Role Model: Embody brand-specific behaviors and act as a positive role model for all team members.
- Operational Support: Proactively assist operational departments during peak service hours (e.g., clearing tables during breakfast).
- Guest Engagement: Be present in the hotel restaurant for 30 minutes daily during breakfast service to engage with guests, assist with operations, and gather feedback to improve Stay Scores.
- Communication & Recognition: Ensure regular and effective communication (e.g., Hotel Huddles) to maintain a high level of trust and engagement. Utilize the brand Recognition Calendar to execute regular team and hotel-wide appreciation actions.
- Work Environment: Guide the Chief Host and leadership team in providing an inspiring work environment that maintains our reputation as a great place to work.
II. HR Management & Compliance
- Staffing & Development: Support Heads of Departments (HODs) in recruitment (interviewing, selecting, and on-boarding) in alignment with Hilton Diversity & Inclusion Goals. Recruit individuals who are brand ambassadors and great hosts.
- Training & Development: Ensure all mandatory training requirements are met, and actively implement additional training to develop team members on-property.
- Performance & Talent: Coordinate the annual global Team Member engagement survey. Ensure VIP Talks (performance reviews) are regularly conducted, talent reviews occur, and development opportunities are offered.
- HR Systems & Administration: Create, manage, and regularly re-evaluate HR administration processes for effectiveness. Ensure proper use and maintenance of HR & Payroll systems.
- Payroll & Compliance: Accountable for managing the payroll function (budgets and actuals) in compliance with local regulations. Ensure team members are paid accurately and on time, and that the workplace is safe and secure.
- Heart of House: Regularly inspect the cleanliness and upkeep of team member facilities (changing rooms, restaurant) in line with global Heart of House standards.
III. Leadership & Interdepartmental Collaboration
- People Operations Team: Interview, select, on-board, supervise, coach, and evaluate the People Operations team members.
- Hotel Operations: Be available to serve as the Duty Manager once a month over a weekend.
- Collaboration: Establish effective working relationships with all hotel departments to ensure a high level of cross-departmental collaboration.

- Previous HR Managerial experience (essential).

- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and work effectively both independently and in teams.
Desirable Capabilities
- Knowledge of the Hospitality Industry.
- Strong IT proficiency.
