The Opportunity: Living Benefits Claims Consultant

We are seeking a highly competent Living Benefits Claims Consultant to join our team, focusing on Risk and Savings within the SLS Office. This pivotal role requires independent decision-making and expert analysis of complex claims to ensure fair outcomes for our clients.

What You Will Do

This role is centered on expert assessment, technical liaison, and clear client communication:

  • Complex Claims Assessment: Independently assess and make final decisions on complex living benefits claims, including severe illness, disability, and sickness benefits.
  • Contractual Interpretation: Ensure all claim requests are met within the strict boundaries of the policy contract, requiring precise interpretation of contractual definitions.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a key contact point, liaising with essential internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Underwriters, Legal, Re-insurers, Medical Doctors) to resolve complex assessments.
  • Client Communication & Ownership: Take full ownership of written and verbal communication with clients and intermediaries. Articulate claim outcomes clearly to prevent complaints and manage all complaint handling.
  • Intermediary Support: Serve as the contact person for VIP intermediaries, providing technical claims support and addressing their clients’ queries.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively propose and implement improvements to the claims assessment process.

What Will Make You Successful

Knowledge & Experience

  • A Degree or Diploma with 3 to 5 years of related experience is required.
  • Prior experience as an Occupational Therapist or in a clinical role within the medical field is highly recommended.
  • Experience in the assessment of Living Benefit Claims, Risk Claims, or Retail Claims is highly beneficial.
  • Proven experience in complaints handling.
  • Familiarity with Risk Products and Benefits is recommended.
