Are you a highly experienced nursing professional ready to step into a pivotal managerial role? We are seeking an exceptional Health Clinic Manager to lead the provision of comprehensive health services at the Primary Health Care (PHC) level within the Transnet Corporate Centre’s FOUND division, specifically supporting the Phelophepa Health Clinic initiatives.
This is a permanent position based in Johannesburg, South Africa, where your expertise will directly impact the quality of patient care and the strategic goals of the clinic.

The Mission: Management, Mentorship, and Maximising Care
The purpose of this role is simple yet profound: to effectively and efficiently manage, supervise, and facilitate the delivery of holistic health services and to drive essential quality improvement programmes in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will be the central figure responsible for operational excellence, professional governance, and strategic alignment.
Your Key Position Outputs Will Include:
- Strategic Leadership: Provide guidance and leadership to align all clinic activities and individual staff performance with the strategic business objectives outlined in the balance scorecard.
- Operational & Clinical Oversight: Coordinate all health clinic activities, facilitating the provision of clinical services, educational services, and involvement in research to ensure maximum quality patient care.
- Resource Management: Ensure adequate control and allocation of Human and Material Resources, and proactively plan and monitor budget utilization to keep the clinic financially sound.
- Supervision & Mentorship: Offer direct supervision and guidance to Chief Professional Nurses, Professional Platform Nurses, Student Nurses, and the Edu Clinic Facilitator, fostering a supportive and professional environment.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze and interpret PHC and Programme indicators (e.g., cervical smears, prostate screening results) and compile comprehensive monthly and provincial reports detailing clinic activities and challenges.
- Professional Governance: Ensure adherence to the Nursing Act and Regulations, SANC Code of Ethics, and all Transnet/Phelophepa risk control policies. You will oversee the implementation of Batho Pele Principles and guarantee all nurses maintain current, valid SANC registration.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Actively participate in policy development and reviews for the health clinic and facilitate stakeholder participation to address health care users’ needs.
Who We Are Looking For (Mandatory Credentials)
This is a senior management role requiring deep professional expertise and formal qualifications in both clinical and administrative nursing.
Qualifications and Experience Essentials:
- Experience: A minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience in a nursing management position, with a preference for experience in a community health environment.
- Core Nursing Qualification: Diploma/Degree in General Nursing (including Community Health, Psychiatry, and Midwifery).
- Advanced Mandatory Degrees: A Degree with Nursing administration, management and Nursing education with majors in health services management and nursing education is mandatory.
- PHC Qualification: A Diploma in Clinical nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment & care (Primary Health Care Nursing) is mandatory.
- Licensure: A Dispensing Licence is mandatory.
- Registration: Current, valid Registration with SANC as a General Nurse, nurse educator, nurse administrator, community health nurse, midwife, and primary health nurse.
- Knowledge & Skills: Working knowledge of PHC policies, legislation, computer literacy (Microsoft, Excel, POWERPOINT), and a Valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
- Advantage: A Master’s in Community Public Health will be an advantage.
