General Assistant (External Applications Only – Mthatha East)
Location: Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa | Department: OPS 7

Description:
Provide excellent customer service in the store while maintaining proper merchandising, shelf labeling, and housekeeping standards within the assigned area of responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with 1 year of related experience, or Grade 12 with no experience
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language
  • Valid South African ID or work permit
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Ability to work well under pressure

Key Performance Areas:

Customer Service

  • Advise and assist customers on the correct products and handle queries professionally
  • Address and resolve customer complaints promptly

Merchandising Standards

  • Merchandise bulk stock safely according to the store layout plan
  • Ensure displays are fully stocked and aligned with approved planograms

Housekeeping

  • Keep the work area neat, organized, and free from obstacles
  • Merchandise received stock immediately
  • Maintain accurate shelf price labeling
  • Complete canteen and toilet/showers checklists as required

Safety (OHSA) Requirements

  • Comply with safety standards and wear appropriate protective gear
  • Ensure racking and bulk stock are safely merchandised to prevent hazards
  • Report any safety issues or discrepancies to the Store Manager
  • Monitor and report damaged stock within your area of responsibility
  • Take measures to manage and minimize stock loss
