Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a high-calibre, assertive Fleet Controller to join our Petroleum Business Unit in Alrode. This critical, fast-paced role is the central point of control for fleet operations, balancing administrative efficiency with real-time operational supervision. The successful candidate will be instrumental in maximizing vehicle utilization, ensuring driver compliance, and maintaining exceptional customer service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the management team, the Fleet Controller will be responsible for the full spectrum of operational and administrative fleet control:

I. Operational Control and Monitoring

  • Vehicle Tracking & Utilization: Proactively monitor and track all vehicles in real-time, focusing on maximizing asset utilization and ensuring routes are adhered to.
  • Progress Monitoring: Continuously monitor delivery progress and liaise with drivers to ensure on-time service delivery.
  • Breakdown Management: Efficiently capture, report, and coordinate the response to vehicle breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Order Management: Identify opportunities to secure additional orders and ensure optimal route planning and vehicle loading.

II. Driver and Team Supervision

  • Supervision: Directly supervise and control all driver activities, ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Problem Resolution: Act as the first point of contact for drivers, promptly assisting them with any operational or logistical problems they encounter on the road.

III. Administration and Communication

  • Administrative Efficiency: Handle all essential administrative tasks related to fleet movement, driver scheduling, and delivery documentation.
  • Data Capturing: Accurately capture and maintain key operational data, including performance metrics and breakdown logs.
  • Customer and Factory Liaison: Effectively sort out customer issues and complaints. Communicate critical factory or supply problems directly to the customer in a professional and timely manner.

Minimum Requirements

We are seeking a proactive and reliable candidate who thrives in a demanding environment.

  • Minimum Education Level: Higher Certificate (Preferred).
  • Basic Education: Matric (Grade 12) is mandatory.
  • Experience: Proven Administration experience in a similar logistics or transport environment is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Must be highly computer literate with demonstrable skills in data capturing.
  • Personal Attributes: Must be reliable, assertive, pro-active, and capable of taking initiative.
  • Availability: Must be prepared to work shifts as required by operational demands.
