Environmental Expert

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and prepare relevant reports
• Ensure project compliance with local, national and international environmental regulations
• Monitor construction activities to identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation plans
• Prepare and manage Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Waste Management Plans and Spill Prevention Plans
• Liaise with government agencies, consultants, and stakeholders regarding environmental issues
• Conduct environmental audits, inspections and reporting
• Oversee waste management, air and water quality monitoring and soil contamination control
• Provide environmental training and awareness programs to construction personnel
• Maintain documentation and records for audits and compliance verification
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices and sustainability initiatives
• Support obtaining and maintaining all required environmental permits and approvals

Key skills:
• Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements
• Ability to interpret technical environmental data and reports
• Proficient in using environmental monitoring tools and software
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in environmental management on construction or infrastructure projects
• Proven experience in conducting EIAs, preparing EMPs, and working with environmental permitting processes
• National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) Certificate is compulsory
• 1SO 14001. Environmental Management Systems certification or working knowledge (added advantage)
