About the Role

RCL FOODS is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team at the Pongola Mill.

The purpose of this role is to formulate and implement engineering strategies, policies, and plans aimed at improving and maintaining the mill’s performance. The Engineering Manager will drive operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives, ensure optimal equipment reliability and efficiency, and align engineering activities with the company’s overall strategic objectives.

This position also requires leading cross-functional teams, managing capital projects, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and fostering innovation to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Minimum Requirements

• BTech/BSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
• Government Certificate of Competency (Factories – GCC).
• 5 years’ experience in a Management or Engineering role (experience in the sugar industry is advantageous).
• Knowledge of maintenance schedules, inspection procedures, SHE practices, and budget/cost control.
• Understanding of sugar manufacturing, power generation, and cane operations.
• Professional registration in terms of the Engineering Profession of South Africa Act (114 of 1990) will be an added advantage.
• Excellent communication skills (English) and strong computer literacy.
• Willingness to work standby and unplanned overtime when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Construction, and Asset Management divisions.
• Plan, compile, and control budgets related to maintenance, operations, materials, employment, and capital projects.
• Conceptualise, develop, and deliver capital expenditure projects in line with operational goals.
• Establish, implement, and maintain sound engineering and maintenance management practices and procedures.
• Drive performance management, including coaching, mentoring, and staff development.
• Report and investigate accidents and incidents, implementing corrective and preventive actions to ensure a safe working environment.
• Maintain high work quality standards, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and uphold good housekeeping practices within all areas of responsibility.
