Position: Underground Electrician

As an Underground Electrician at South Deep, you will be accountable for repairing, replacing, and upgrading components underground. Your work will be essential to maintaining the highest possible safety standards and ensuring the optimal efficiency of all equipment. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be performing both scheduled and unscheduled tasks.

What We’re Looking For

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Relevant Trade Certificate.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as an underground electrician.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working on medium voltage (MV) networks/systems, including substations, switchgear, and mini-substations.
• You must be declared medically fit for the position and environment, which includes passing a risk-based medical examination and a Heat Tolerance Screening test.

• A proven track record in safety leadership.
• Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently, proactively, and meet tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of electrical installations.
• Proven record of production achievements.
• You must be willing to undergo further training and development on winders and related infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility is to ensure the health and safety of yourself and your team members by following all relevant standards and procedures. Your daily tasks will include:

• Performing inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Conducting repairing, maintenance, and construction of MCC’s, substations, crushers, and conveyors.
• Responding to and repairing breakdowns as they occur.
• Aligning with planned maintenance schedules and maintaining relevant records for all equipment.
• Promoting and developing teamwork within your department.
• Conducting root cause analysis for breakdowns and identifying necessary spare parts.
• Working overtime, standby, and being available for callouts as needed.
