Are you a skilled Diesel Mechanic with a passion for problem-solving and a strong commitment to safety? BME, a division of Omnia, is looking for a talented individual to join our team at the Kathu Workshop in the Northern Cape.
This is a permanent position for a dedicated professional who is ready to put their expertise to work on a range of vehicles and equipment.
What You’ll Be Doing ⚙️
As a Diesel Mechanic, you’ll be the backbone of our operational efficiency. Your primary duties will involve performing diagnostic tests and carrying out essential repairs and maintenance on diesel vehicles.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Diagnostics & Repair: You will perform diagnostic tests to identify faults and then repair or replace components in the engine, steering, transmission, and braking systems.
- Preventative Maintenance: You will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance on our service trucks to ensure they are always in top condition.
- Inventory & Documentation: You’ll maintain a detailed parts inventory and keep meticulous records of all serviced vehicles and work performed.
- Safety & Compliance: A strong adherence to SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality) principles is a must. You will ensure all safety requirements are met, wear the correct PPE, and maintain good housekeeping principles.
Who We’re Looking For 🌟
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled and detail-oriented mechanic with a solid foundation in diesel repair. You are a safety-conscious individual who can take control and work efficiently.
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Qualifications: A Grade 12 or equivalent certificate, a valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence, and a Trade Tested certificate (Red Seal).
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic on trucks and light-duty vehicles (LVDs). You should also have at least 3 years of knowledge regarding the design, use, repair, and maintenance of various machines and tools.
- Essential Skills: You have proven written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong safety and quality-conscious mindset.
- Advantageous: Proven working experience in an explosives environment is a distinct advantage.
