Job Opportunity: Cost and Management Accountant (Fixed-Term)


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cost and Management Accountant to join our team on a fixed-term basis. We are seeking a highly skilled professional to play a critical role in our financial decision-making process. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing key financial data, preparing forecasts and budgets, and implementing cost-effective strategies to maximize profits and minimize expenses.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Financial Analysis

  • Cost Management: Develop and implement systems to track and manage costs, identifying opportunities for reduction and maximizing profitability.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze financial data and trends to provide actionable insights that drive strategic business decisions.
  • Reporting: Compile and maintain a database of cost information, preparing accurate and timely management reports by division and site.
  • Month-End Activities: Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including inventory valuations and other reconciliations.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Budgeting: Assist with the annual budget preparation and reporting process, ensuring all spending aligns with established budgets.
  • Forecasting: Develop and maintain financial forecasts to support project planning and decision-making

Governance & Compliance

  • Compliance: Ensure all divisions comply with relevant legislation (e.g., Income Tax Act, Value Added Tax Act) and industry best practices.
  • Audit Support: Assist with both internal and external audits, including preparing audit files and responding to queries.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: A CIMA / CGMA qualification is required. A BCom in Accounting with completed articles is also essential. A Chartered Accountancy qualification would be an added advantage.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of related experience is necessary, preferably within a construction, mining, or tailings environment. Experience with SAGE ERP would be a significant advantage.
  • Skills: Strong technical skills in report writing, financial analysis, and budget control are required. The ability to mentor and coach a team is also crucial, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
