Take the Lead in Public Service: Chief Accountant, Revenue

Are you a seasoned finance professional with a knack for leadership and a passion for strategic financial management? The Directorate of Finance is looking for a dedicated Chief Accountant: Revenue to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to lead and direct the services and rates sections, playing a pivotal role in designing policies and achieving key service delivery objectives for the municipality.


Your Strategic Role and Responsibilities

As the Chief Accountant, you will be at the helm of our revenue department, leading the charge on all matters related to debtors and income. Your expertise will be crucial in providing strategic advice to management and ensuring our financial goals are met.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Leadership: You will lead, control, and direct the services and rates sections by designing and developing effective policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Advisory Support: Provide strategic financial advice and support to management, helping to accomplish our strategic goals and achieve key performance areas and service delivery objectives.
  • Operational Oversight: You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring the administration of debtors and income is efficient and accurate.
  • Mentorship and Development: As a leader, you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring your team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a highly experienced and meticulous finance professional with a strong background in municipal finance and a proven ability to lead a team.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: A relevant three-year tertiary qualification, such as a National Diploma or B.Comm, with Financial Accounting as a major. A relevant B-Degree (NQF 7) is preferred.
  • Experience: 5-8 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Skills: Proven knowledge and experience with the Munsoft Financial System, excellent supervisory and reporting skills, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Certifications: You must have a valid Code B driver’s license and be able to obtain a Municipal Minimum Competency Level Certificate (MMCL) within 18 months of appointment.
  • Attributes: We are seeking someone who can work independently, is a natural problem solver, and has strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation

This is a T14 position with an estimated Cost to Company (CTC) of R1,024,402.65 per annum, which includes a car allowance. The basic salary ranges from R545,881.51 to R708,591.42 per annum.
