Are you ready to be the safety and efficiency expert on our logistics team?
We are seeking a dedicated Checker Operator to join our team at the SAB Waltloo Depot/Tswane. The key purpose of this full-time role is essential: to safely and efficiently load, unload, and stack materials, all while maintaining our strict governance standards and ensuring superior customer service.
The Role: Precision, Safety, and Inventory Integrity
This is a hands-on position requiring sharp focus, technical competence, and a commitment to AB InBev’s high operational standards. You will be the crucial link between production, inventory, and delivery.
Key Areas of Accountability: What You’ll Deliver
Your day-to-day responsibilities will cover Fleet Management, Inventory, Safety, and Continuous Improvement:
1. Fleet Management & Safety Compliance
- Vehicle Readiness: Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections prior to every shift using the official checklist, ensuring the forklift is in optimal condition and correctly fueled.
- Safety First: Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental standards. This includes ensuring Department of Labour stacking exemptions are met, maintaining impeccable site housekeeping, and using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Proactive Safety: Maintain a robust system for generating and closing out SIOs (Safe Interaction Observations) and SHOs (Safety Hazard Observations).
2. Inventory Management & Quality Control
- Accuracy is Key: Perform accurate daily stock counts using a handheld device, generate variance reports in SAP, and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Stock Rotation: Maintain warehouse stock age standards by meticulously ensuring First Expiration First Out (FEFO) principles are applied, complying with the freshness and rotation policy.
- Quality Check: Ensure quality control by checking packaging on the warehouse floor and prior to loading vehicles.
- Data Integrity: Accurately record returns on the handheld device before unloading and participate actively in the handover process before and after every shift.
3. Efficient Operations & Problem Solving
- Loading/Unloading: Ensure the accurate checking, loading, and unloading of vehicles. Use the Load Summary to ensure correct quantities are loaded and update the Shipment Status in SAP immediately.
- Production Support (Where Applicable): Ensure production continuity by efficiently loading empties and raw materials onto lines, and removing finished products to the stack, always aiming for optimal line productivity.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive a problem-solving culture using DPO tools like 5-Why, Abnormality Reports, and OWD’s. You will be involved in DPO, CSA, and other audits, and you’ll track and manage KPIs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
What We’re Looking For
This role requires a dedicated individual who is ready to embrace our culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Education: A 3-year Post Matric Qualification (Degree/National Diploma in Logistics or a related field) is required.
- Experience: 1 or 2 years’ experience in a warehousing or logistics environment is an added advantage.
- Certification: A Forklift license will be an added advantage.
- DPO Focus: A good understanding of DPO (Driving Operational Excellence) principles and the ability to run and manage a shift are highly preferable.
- Attributes: The ability to work under pressure and over weekends when required, and a commitment to encouraging a culture of continuous improvement.
