Job Summary
The Buyer is responsible for ensuring the procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment at the correct quality, specification, price, and time of delivery, guaranteeing 24-hour availability of essential items. This role involves managing the entire purchasing lifecycle, from order placement and supplier negotiation to inventory management and stock expediting.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Ordering: Place orders for stock items precisely as per specifications, minimum required levels, and agreed-upon prices.
- Expediting: Actively expedite and track all outstanding orders to ensure timely delivery and update the scorecard with accurate stock availability and expected delivery dates.
- Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong, productive supplier relationships, briefing them on open order reports, artwork changes, malt changes, and managing supplier breakdowns.
- Inventory & Stock Control: Assist store clerks and the team with capturing and executing accurate stock counts.
- Quality & Returns: Manage the upliftment of rejected stock in accordance with the Material Rejection Note process.
- Compliance: Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to internal processes and compliance standards.
Experience and Qualifications
- Education: Matric (Grade 12) is required. A Diploma in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or Logistics is essential.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in Purchasing, Procurement, or Supply Chain roles. (The initial reference to 2 years experience is superseded by the 3-year requirement).

Performance Metrics (Key Measures)
The success of this role will be measured by the following:
- Achievement of on-time availability, quantity, and quality of stock items.
- Effective follow-up on delivered, outstanding, and returned stock items.
- Timely and correct stock upliftment processes.
- Effective and timely supplier communication and response times.
- Maintaining 100% accuracy in all transactional and reporting tasks.
