About the Role

The Administrator Payroll is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of salary costs per cost centre and employee hierarchy. This role ensures labour costs are correctly accounted for in the financial month, oversees system enhancements, and ensures compliance with legislation, policies, agreements, and accounting principles regarding payroll.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement finance management strategies and department plans within the payroll function.
  • Contribute to budget management, cost containment, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Oversee payroll processes, systems, and reporting to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Control and confirm payroll vendor and debtor accounts.
  • Assist HR with compiling yearly payroll rosters and reports.
  • Update payroll parameters according to legislation and system changes.
  • Ensure reconciliations, NETT PAY, TCE, BASIC PAY, PAYE, and headcount are accurately maintained.
  • Manage unclaimed wages, returned wages, refunds, and staff debt recovery.
  • Execute all payroll payment procedures including PAYE, SDL, UIF, and third-party payments.
  • Administer pension, medical, and voluntary severance payments.
  • Manage Workman’s Compensation calculations, thresholds, and declarations.
  • Handle garnishee orders, maintenance orders, IT88, and other statutory payments.
  • Maintain payroll interface integrity, batch input sessions, and statistical figure interfaces in SAP R3 HR and FI.
  • Support audit processes and address payroll-related findings.
  • Represent the payroll section at internal and external levels.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Matric (Grade 12) with mathematics (NQF Level 4).
  • Diploma in Accounting (NQF Level 6) or 4 years payroll experience.
  • SAP R3 HR and FI experience essential.
  • PC literate (MS Word, Excel, Access, Windows).
  • Experience in reconciliations is required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong SAP R3 HR payroll and FI knowledge.
  • Understanding of accounting and payroll legislation (PAYE, SDL, UIF, medical, pension, provident funds).
  • Analytical, problem-solving, numeric, and attention to detail skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • High level of confidentiality and ethics.
  • Accuracy and strong reporting skills.
