We are looking for two driven Actuarial Analysts to join our permanent team in the Underwriting Department in Johannesburg, Gauteng. This is a chance to move beyond theoretical models and use your skills to directly impact the well-being and financial soundness of our health insurance portfolio.

The Role: Pricing, Analytics, and Strategic Insight

The purpose of this job is to ensure the health portfolio remains financially sound and competitively priced. You will handle the entire lifecycle of health insurance risk assessment—from initial quotes and trend analysis to pricing strategy and reporting.

Key Responsibilities: What You’ll Be Driving

Your expertise will be essential in pricing accuracy, risk analysis, and business intelligence:

• Quote Production: Take ownership of the timely preparation, submission, and reporting of book-rated new business and renewal quotes. You will also support the underwriting team on complex experience-rated quotes.
• Risk & Trend Analysis: Conduct comprehensive Trend Analysis of healthcare costs based on historical claims experience. You will apply actuarial modeling and statistical methodologies to extract meaningful insights on future trends within the medical insurance space.
• Model Development: Be responsible for the building, maintenance, and improvement of actuarial, analytical, and pricing models, ensuring they are fit for purpose and driving accurate results.
• Strategic Pricing & Product Input: Conduct competitor benefits and pricing analytics to provide vital input into Hollard Health’s product development and pricing strategies.
• Reporting & Communication: Construct and maintain comprehensive reports that give clear insights on key Underwriting KPIs, ensuring you can simplify complex technical details for a non-technical audience.
• Due Diligence: Conduct essential due-diligence checks on the financial soundness of In-Country Partners.
• Knowledge Sharing: Train internal and external stakeholders on various topics related to Pricing, Product, and Underwriting.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate blends high academic achievement with technical prowess and a strong commercial mindset.

Educational & Technical Requirements

• Core Education: A Bachelor’s and Honours Degree in Actuarial Science or similar is required.
• Actuarial Progress: You must have passed 5 IFOA/ASSA Core Principle exams (or similar level with another institution).
• Technical Mastery:
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Tools (Power Query, Power Pivot & Power BI).
  • Proficiency in at least one Statistical Software package such as R, SAS, SQL, or Python.
  • Proficiency in the application of generative AI is a plus.
• Experience: 1–2 years’ experience in a relevant field.
