Main Purpose of the Role

The Accounts Controller ensures revenue optimisation by generating accurate patient accounts and maintaining complete patient files with all supporting documentation. This role is critical in supporting the financial and operational efficiency of the hospital while enhancing patient satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately and promptly bill all charted items used during a patient’s stay.
• Complete patient files, ensuring all necessary documentation is included and accounts are finalised.
• Utilise and manage applicable reports to ensure timely finalisation and rendering of accounts.
• Maintain effective communication with other departments to ensure client satisfaction.

• Essential: Grade 12
• Desired: None

Required Experience

• Essential: No prior experience required
• Desired: Previous experience as an Accounts Controller or in a healthcare environment

Required Skills and Knowledge

• Knowledge of debtors and creditors processes, including invoicing and reconciliation.
• Understanding of anatomy (extremities) and medical terminology.
• Awareness of medical aid tariff agreements (e.g., CPP) and their applications.
• Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with patient administration policies, procedures, and systems (e.g., AS400).
• Practical understanding of billing protocols, including government gazette, final billing, render and EDI, and DRG processes.
