Introduction

Our client, a well-established and growing leader in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant to join their finance team in Centurion.

This pivotal role will act as a key support to the Financial Manager and Executive Directors, overseeing the financial health and statutory compliance of multiple entities. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to drive financial accuracy and operational excellence within a dynamic and growth-focused organization.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will report directly to the Financial Manager and often function as the Second-in-Command (2IC), with a broad scope of financial and compliance duties:

Financial Management & Operations

• Entity Oversight: Oversee the full financial and operational management of several subsidiary entities within the group.
• Reporting: Prepare, review, and submit accurate weekly, monthly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Transactions: Assist the Financial Manager with posting bank transactions, processing journal entries, and reviewing expenses and payroll data.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Prepare budgets, comprehensive financial analysis, revenue projections, and expenditure forecasts.
• Asset Management: Maintain the company’s asset register and assist with stock-take audits.
• Staff Supervision: Supervise junior accounting staff as required.

Compliance and Statutory Reporting

• Tax Management: Prepare and submit all local tax returns and statutory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, UIF, Workman’s Compensation, IRP5, IRP6, and EMP501.
• Director Support: Assist Executive Directors with complex personal income taxes and provisional tax submissions.
• Annual Audit: Coordinate and assist with annual audit preparations, including resolving audit findings and compiling Annual Financial Statements (AFS) according to IFRS, IFRS for SME, and IAS standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate accounting functions across departments, including Dispatch, Receiving, Debtors, Creditors, and Legal, to ensure seamless financial operations.
• B-BBEE: Assist with annual B-BBEE audit preparations.

Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience

• Education: BCom Financial Accounting Degree (Essential).
• Articles: Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles (Essential).
• Experience: 3-5 years of post-article experience in a similar corporate accounting role.

Essential Experience & Skills

• Demonstrable experience assisting a Financial Manager in a corporate accounting environment.
• Proven ability to prepare and review comprehensive financial statements and management reports.
• In-depth knowledge of statutory compliance, including VAT, PAYE, and UIF.
• Strong experience with audit processes, detailed reconciliations, and implementing internal control processes.
• Software Proficiency: Intermediate to expert knowledge of Sage Evolution and Pastel Partner (Sage 50c).
• Working knowledge of e-Filing for tax submissions.
• Language: Proficient in both Afrikaans and English.

• Own reliable transport and a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to learn new software (Basic knowledge of Draftworx and SimplePay is a bonus).
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
