Overview

Aspen is seeking a Head of Quality to lead the strategic direction and implementation of quality and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) compliance across operations. The successful candidate will design quality policies, ensure alignment with global standards, and oversee all aspects of pharmaceutical quality systems, driving continuous improvement and regulatory excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance and Continuous Improvement

• Strategically manage and mitigate GMP regulatory audit findings and outcomes.
• Ensure full compliance with policies, SOPs, and facility standards.
• Drive improvements in quality standards through feedback integration and regulatory insights.

Quality System (QS) Management

• Oversee the condition, effectiveness, and relevance of the overall quality system.
• Guide the development and maintenance of QS-related policies and procedures.
• Supervise systems for deviation management, CAPAs, document control, risk management, root cause analysis, change control, product failure handling, and data trending.

Quality Assurance (QA) Management

• Oversee QA procedures, standards, and specifications across value streams.
• Align QA programs and activities with business strategy.
• Provide leadership in product release, retention sample management, and in-process quality control.

Quality Control (QC) Management

• Ensure effective oversight of QC processes, including laboratory testing, customer service, and deviation investigations.
• Maintain compliance with legal, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Vendor and Audit Management

• Ensure supplier compliance with legislation, corporate policies, and GMP standards.
• Manage internal, corporate, and supplier audit programs.

Organisational Support and Function Management

• Develop and implement strategic direction for business-critical quality functions across South African operations.
• Oversee financial and HR aspects of the quality function to ensure optimal team performance.
• Facilitate collaboration and coordination among reporting units.
• Maintain strong customer relationships and manage issue resolution effectively.

Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (minimum requirement).
• 8–10 years of managerial experience in a Quality Assurance environment.
• 8–10 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Proven track record engaging with local and/or international regulators and audit processes.

Skills & Competencies

• Expertise in GMP, Quality Systems, policies, and procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
