Job Purpose

The eThekwini Municipality is seeking a qualified and experienced Occupational Health Medical Practitioner to provide clinical and supervisory management of occupational health services across the municipality. The role focuses on reducing employee exposure to workplace hazards and occupational diseases, ensuring a healthy and safe work environment for all employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage administrative, clinical, and specialized functions within the Occupational Medicine Services Section as delegated by the Occupational Health Physician.
• Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing occupational health services and programs.
• Investigate and make recommendations on the adequacy and needs of occupational health services.
• Liaise with medical staff and senior administrative personnel to coordinate departmental operations.
• Support civil protection initiatives related to occupational medicine.
• Ensure all regional clinics comply with Medicines Control regulations.
• Oversee workplace medical and clinical management of HIV/AIDS programs.
• Supervise subordinates and maintain up-to-date knowledge of health service standards.
• Plan and conduct occupational health programmes and interventions.

Essential Requirements

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent (NQF Level 8) recognized by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Diploma in Occupational Health (NQF Level 8) or equivalent accepted by the HPCSA.
• Current valid HPCSA registration as a Medical Practitioner.
• Occupational Health registered as an additional qualification with the HPCSA.
• Dispensing certificate.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum of 6 years post-qualification experience as a Medical Practitioner, with at least 2 years in Occupational Health.

Preferred Requirements

• 8 years post-qualification experience as a Medical Practitioner, including 3 years in Occupational Health.

Remuneration and Benefits

💰 Salary: R1,256,750.00 – R1,603,022.00 per annum (Total Value Package)
