Role Purpose

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees the overall financial strategy, governance, and fiscal health of the organisation. This includes determining financial policies, managing investments, ensuring compliance, and supporting long-term planning. The CFO leads the financial function, guides the organisation through dynamic environments, and delivers all financial aspects of Nexio’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities include developing robust financial and risk management frameworks, implementing effective fiscal controls, and fostering strong relationships with financial institutions and stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

Executive Directorship & Strategy

  • Define and drive financial strategy as a board member.
  • Influence board members, investors, and executive peers.
  • Develop long-term strategic vision for Finance and Commercial functions.

Functional Leadership

  • Lead the financial division and influence overall business strategy.
  • Establish fiscal controls, ensure compliance, and manage statutory reporting.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as 2IC to the CEO and business partner to Exco.
  • Build trust and alignment across leadership teams.
  • Provide technical and strategic guidance to financial managers.

Financial Management

  • Oversee management accounts, budgeting, and long-range financial plans.
  • Manage cash flow, balance sheets, and financial performance.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and M&A due diligence.
  • Ensure taxation compliance and oversee transformation strategy (BBBEE).
  • Prepare financial reports, forecasts, and business performance analyses.

Risk & Governance

  • Serve as Chief Risk Officer overseeing internal controls and governance.
  • Manage solvency, liquidity, and business continuity.
  • Chair the Nexio Pension Fund and Cyber Security SteerCo.
  • Oversee internal audits, ethics, and compliance.
  • Maintain relationships with auditors, attorneys, insurers, and bankers.

Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) (SA) – Essential
  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience, including 5 years in senior financial management.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a technology environment preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Proven leadership in finance, strategy, and governance.
  • Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and performance management.
  • Experience with corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and commercial negotiations.
  • Deep understanding of risk management, taxation, and audit practices.
