Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle of driver training and assessment, focusing on competence, compliance, and behavioural change.

I. Training Delivery and Facilitation

  • Accredited Training: Facilitate all relevant Unit Standard, internal, and customer training content as required by the Division.

  • Behavioural Coaching: Take responsibility for driving positive behavioural change in both new and current drivers through targeted training and coaching.
  • Safety Facilitation: Periodically facilitate safety meetings and safety stand-downs to reinforce safe behaviour among drivers and operators.
  • Vehicle Training: Conduct specialized training on various vehicle types, trailer configurations, and correct loading/offloading procedures specific to the Division.

II. Assessment and Competency Management

  • Pre-Employment Assessment: Conduct practical driver skills assessments prior to employment and provide detailed recommendations to the Contract Management team.
  • Continuous Assessment: Continuously assess the competencies of current and prospective drivers and develop interventions to address shortcomings.
  • In-Cab Evaluations: Conduct regular (as prescribed) and ad-hoc in-cab and on-route evaluation and training for drivers and operators.
  • Performance Improvement: Use data (incidents, accidents, DriveCam, Mix Telematics, fuel consumption) to compile targeted training plans in collaboration with the Senior Training Officer to improve skills and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Certification: Liaise and submit all required documentation for driver certification purposes.

III. Operational Support and Administration

  • Training Needs Analysis (TNA): Identify training needs from reported incidents/accidents and recommend necessary training requirements to meet performance standards, delivering retraining where necessary.
  • Route Optimization: Conduct periodical site visits to determine the best entry, loading, offloading procedures, and exit routes. Adjust Journey Management plans based on assessments or Google Maps data when required.
