Shaping Excellence: The Dual Role of a Compliance & HR Manager in Luxury Retail
In the fast-paced world of luxury retail, success isn’t just measured by sales figures. It’s built on a foundation of operational excellence, meticulous compliance, and, most importantly, a thriving, engaged team. This is where the Compliance & HR Manager steps in—a pivotal role that balances the art of human resources with the science of business operations.
This isn’t a traditional HR position. Based in Johannesburg, this role is for a seasoned professional who can seamlessly blend people management with a keen understanding of sales targets. It’s a unique opportunity to shape the future of a prestigious luxury brand by ensuring that every team member is supported and every process is optimized for success.
What Makes This Role Unique?
The Compliance & HR Manager is a strategic partner, a coach, and a guardian of company standards. Your day-to-day will be a dynamic mix of:
- Driving Performance: You will oversee regional sales performance, working closely with boutique managers to set and achieve ambitious targets. This includes developing coaching plans for sales teams and analyzing growth metrics to provide actionable insights.
- Fostering Talent: You’ll manage the full recruitment lifecycle, from finding top talent to ensuring new hires are successfully integrated. A key focus is on talent management and staff retention, which you’ll achieve by addressing performance issues proactively and implementing strategies to keep employees engaged and motivated.
- Ensuring Compliance: You will conduct regular store audits to ensure that all operations adhere to company policies and standards. This is about more than just rules; it’s about protecting the brand’s reputation and maintaining a professional, secure environment.
- Cultivating Culture: You’ll be instrumental in creating an inclusive workplace where communication is respectful and every voice is heard. Your empathetic approach will be crucial in gathering feedback and making continuous improvements to the employee experience.
What It Takes to Succeed
This is a senior-level position that requires a unique blend of skills and experience. To thrive in this role, you should have:
- 8-10 years of human resources experience, with at least five years in a leadership or senior HR management capacity within a sales-driven environment, preferably luxury retail.
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field. Relevant HR certifications are also highly desirable.
- Proven expertise in talent acquisition, employee engagement, and implementing effective retention strategies.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with employees at all levels.
- A strong understanding of South African labor laws and a strategic mindset that aligns HR practices with broader business objectives.
This is more than a job; it’s a chance to make a lasting impact on a brand committed to excellence. You’ll be part of a supportive leadership structure that values professional growth and offers flexible working arrangements. If you’re ready to lead at the intersection of people and performance, this opportunity is waiting for you.
