Are you a dynamic sales leader with a passion for building relationships and driving growth in the FMCG sector? AVI is looking for an enthusiastic Area Sales Manager to join our Field Marketing Shared Services Division in the Inland West region of Gauteng. This is a permanent position where you’ll be responsible for a critical sales and merchandising function for Johannesburg East and the Northern Suburbs.

We create impactful in-store experiences and engage directly with customers to ensure our products are both visible and accessible.


What You’ll Do

This is a hands-on role where you will be managing a team of about 30 people while directly servicing our retail customers. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Sales & Merchandising: You’ll monitor stock levels, returns, and pricing to ensure adherence to our mandates. You’ll also negotiate promotional activities and POP (Point of Purchase) displays to maximize product visibility.
  • Team Leadership: You’ll manage your team’s attendance, ensure call cycles are followed, and handle leave planning and payroll submissions. A key part of your role will be to conduct floor walks, brief your team on cycle priorities, and provide on-the-job coaching to develop your staff.
  • Customer & Company Relations: You’ll maintain strong relationships with our retail customers, address their concerns, and ensure all company assets and records are updated. You’ll also conduct price surveys and provide solutions to various issues that arise.
  • Performance Management: You’ll set clear targets for your team and conduct appraisals to ensure everyone is aligned with business objectives and strategy.

Do You Have What It Takes?

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of the FMCG and merchandising industries.

  • Experience: You’ll need a minimum of 3 years of experience in a Sales Supervisor or Sales Manager role, with a proven track record of managing teams in the FMCG sector. A good understanding of HR and industrial relations processes is also required.
  • Education: A Matric/Grade 12 is essential. A completed tertiary qualification in Business, Sales, Marketing, or Retail is a significant advantage.
  • Additional Skills: You must be proficient in Microsoft Office and able to present information to various levels within the organization. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel are also essential for this role.
