Are you looking to build a career in the pharmaceutical industry? Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering an incredible opportunity to aspiring professionals at our Kyalami store. We are hiring for a Dispensary Support position, which is a key stepping stone towards becoming a qualified Pharmacist’s Assistant.
This is more than just a job—it’s a chance to enroll in the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course, which will give you the foundational knowledge and on-the-job training you need to succeed. You’ll work in a fixed-term position until you are officially registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant. Once qualified, a permanent position will be on the table.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Dispensary Support team member, you will assist the pharmacy staff while gaining valuable, hands-on experience. Your responsibilities will include:
- Customer Service: Assisting customers with their needs, handling telephone calls, and following up on scripts and appointments.
- Dispensing Support: Learning to accurately interpret scripts, picking, packing, and labeling medication. You will also check for common dosages and drug interactions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Stock Control: Assisting with managing dispensary stock, including receiving, unpacking, and ensuring shelves are clean and organized with a focus on expiry dates.
- Administrative Tasks: Assisting with scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV, and oncology medication and reporting low or out-of-stock items to the dispensary manager.
What You Need to Apply
This role is for ambitious individuals who are ready to learn and commit to a career in pharmacy.
- Education: You must have a Grade 12 / Matric certificate with a minimum of 50% in Pure Mathematics and an average of 50% in Life Sciences and/or Physical Sciences.
- Assessment: You must pass a proficiency test to qualify for registration with the SAPC.
- Essential Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and a second language.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills with great attention to detail.
- A strong customer focus and a problem-solving mindset.
- You must be trustworthy, honest, and able to work well under pressure.
- Basic computer and numerical skills.
