Are you a dedicated safety professional with a passion for creating a zero-harm workplace? We’re looking for an experienced Safety Officer to join our team in the North West. This is a crucial role where you will be instrumental in minimizing health risks, preventing accidents, and ensuring compliance with all mining safety regulations.


What You’ll Be Doing

As a Safety Officer, you will be on the front lines of our safety initiatives, providing essential support in risk assessment, incident response, and compliance management. Your work will directly contribute to a safer and more accountable work environment for all employees.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Risk Assessment and Management: Identifying potential hazards, assessing associated risks, and collaborating with Chief Safety Officers to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Incident Investigation: Facilitating thorough investigations into any incidents or accidents to prevent recurrence.
  • Compliance Management: Monitoring adherence to the Mines Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation, and ensuring our operations meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Safety Insights and Document Management: Managing daily documents, maintaining the SHE Management System, and safeguarding records for inspections and audits.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Promoting a culture of “Zero harm” and engaging with various departments to ensure safety is a top priority.
  • Technology and Equipment: Staying updated on safety technology and making recommendations for upgrades to ensure all equipment is in working order.

Who We’re Looking For

We need a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a strong background in the mining or a similar industry.

Minimum requirements:

  • Qualifications: A Grade 12 (NQF4) is essential. An NQF5 Mining Qualification is advantageous.
  • Certifications: You must have COMSOC 1 and 2, and a SAMTRAC/SHEMTRAC or equivalent Certificate. A Blasting Ticket/Trade Test Certificate is also required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience within the mining or a similar industry.
  • Skills: You must be medically fit, have a valid Code 10 driver’s license, and be computer literate.

Note: Preference will be given to female candidates for this role.
