Are you a highly organized and detail-oriented logistics professional with a passion for maritime operations? We are seeking a dedicated Shipping Coordinator to join our team in Port Elizabeth. This is a crucial role where you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of bulk cementitious materials, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling from vessel to destination.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our Shipping Coordinator, you’ll be the central hub of our port operations. You will orchestrate every step of the vessel discharge process, from initial planning to final delivery, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned and all processes are optimized.
Key responsibilities include:
- Vessel Coordination: Liaising with port authorities, cargo agents, and ship owners to confirm schedules and minimize delays.
- Documentation Management: Preparing, submitting, and tracking all necessary port documentation to ensure smooth vessel clearance and contractual compliance.
- Discharge Operations: Overseeing the discharge of bulk materials, acting as the primary liaison between vessel crew, stevedores, and port authorities.
- Health & Safety: Championing a safe working culture by ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
- Resource Management: Effectively allocating resources and managing third-party contractors to achieve operational excellence.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can act decisively under pressure and maintain a keen eye for detail.
Who We’re Looking For
We need a proactive and experienced professional with a solid understanding of port operations and a commitment to safety and efficiency.
Minimum requirements:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Maritime Studies, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in bulk shipping or port operations, with a focus on cementitious or powder materials.
- Skills: Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. You should be proficient in MS Office and familiar with shipping operations software.
- Knowledge: A strong understanding of port authority protocols, customs procedures, and environmental compliance related to bulk material handling.
This position requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends during vessel operations and a hands-on approach to leadership.
